About ConsentCare

Before you have any operation or surgical procedure your doctor should clearly explain all the benefits and risks of the procedure to you.  This is called in medical terms "taking an informed consent" from you - meaning that you were fully informed of all the implications of the procedure before you consented to the procedure.  Being fully informed before you consent is your right under the Constitution, and you should insist that your doctor does this.

ConsentCare is an online service that helps your doctor to fully inform you.  It provides all the relevant information about the procedure, with diagrams where necessary, and is tailored to your medical profile.  Once your doctor has gone through all this information with you, the service then prints out all the information in a consent form document for you and your doctor to sign.  You may also be asked to sign consent forms for the hospital (to save you time when you're admitted), for your medical aid (to show that you understand what costs they will cover), and for a representative of the medical supplies company to be present during your operation, to assist your doctor.

You have access to your consent form at all times through the ConsentCare service at LifeSpace.net.  You can also forward it to other people for their opinion, and you can easily enter questions online at any time of day for your doctor to answer, as well read relevant resources with more information about the procedure your doctor is proposing.
